Chinese New Year

Pineapple jam rolled into cylinders in preparation for pineapple tarts.

Red lanterns similar to these are common in homes of those who celebrate Chinese New Year.

On Sunday the 22, it was Chinese New Year. Different families have different traditions, but today I will be sharing with you some of my families.

One tradition is to make pineapple tarts. They are small balls of pineapple jam wrapped in strips of dough. My mom usually makes them one or two weeks before Chinese New Year.

Another thing we do is hang red lanterns. In Chinese culture, the color red is seen as lucky, so Chinese value that color.

These are just some of the traditions that Chinese people practice. Do YOU celebrate Chinese New Year? Let me know some of your traditions!
