Mary Poppins
The book Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers is all about the amazing adventures Mary Poppins took the Banks children on everyday.
Whoosh! Wham! In an instant, Mary Poppins, an extraordinary nannie, took control of the Banks children-Jane, Michael, and the Twins, John and Barbra-living at Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane. She was a creature of magic, whereas most children slid down the banisters, she slid up. She produced all manners of wonder out of her seemingly empty carpet bag and took the children on magical adventures one after another. Who else could do that and still gently tuck the children in at bedtime when the day was done? No one else but the wonderful Mary Poppins!
I really enjoyed this book because it told a fantastical tale, and the way Travers wrote it, I found myself wondering if Mary Poppins was going to come to my house next! It also was a good pick-me-up book. If I read it while I was feeling gloomy or stressed, I would close it feeling calm and relaxed. I would highly recommend it for fourth to sixth graders.
